Saturday granddaughter Sarah and her mare Aggie went to a horse show.  It was a reined cow horse event, and she did quite well — fifth out of fifteen; and there were some big names in the cow horse world there.

My favorite part of the cow horse event is the fence work.  In this, horse and rider have to work a cow turned out in the arena; stopping it and turning it back on the fence, then taking it to the center of the arena and shouldering it into a turn in each direction.  The idea is to demonstrate that the horse and rider have complete control over the cow.

Sarah had a spectacular turn caught on camera.

Not the best quality shot, but you can sure see the dirt fly.

I can’t quite figure out, though, why her ponytail isn’t flying, too!
