The Big Mulberry   Leave a comment

Everyone loves the big mulberry tree in the middle of our driveway.  In the summer, everyone parks under it.  The horses love to snatch a bunch of leaves as they go by.  Its shade has been a blessing for years now.

Everyone loves it, that is, except PG&E.  It’s right under the massive power lines that feature in many of my pictures.  They cut it back many times, and finally said that either we cut it back, or it had to go.  Well, the crew cut it back, all right.  So far back that they nearly did it in.  Then this summer’s plague of squirrels added insult to injury.  They ate nearly every leaf it had.  Now that the squirrels have largely disappeared, it’s come back quickly.

The recent rain washed its dusty leaves so clean that they nearly sparkle.  Some of those leaves are showing signs of color change, now.

Below, you can see friend and boarder Kay and her dear Holly enjoying those nice clean leaves.

If you look closely at the top of the first picture, you can see why PG&E objects to it.  Still, it’s got a long way to go before it interferes with those power lines.  I just hope our crew has learned a little bit about pruning before they have to do it again!

In other news, Billy continues to slowly improve.  He has some colorful bruises from his fall, but he is getting around better.  The only problem is that I’ve put on two or three pounds from being housebound; but (I hope) it won’t be long before he’s well enough for me to be out and about once more.
