I Missed It   Leave a comment

Yesterday we had one of the most striking sunsets in months.  There was enough dust in the air that the crepuscular rays were as brilliant as any I have ever seen.  The trouble is that I only know this because of all of the pictures that other people got.  They were on the local TV news, and in the paper.

And I missed the whole thing.  Just from not looking out of the window at the right time.  Grrr.

When you get to a certain age, you can suddenly realize that the number of sunsets you are going to see is limited.  You hate to miss even one.  But there will be others.

Flowers, too, are fleeting — though not as swift as sunsets.  I had enough time to get this African violet at its best.

The breeders have been trying for a true red violet for years, and they’ve gotten pretty close.  This one is even redder than the camera could pick up, though it did show something of the diamond-dust effect on the petals.  The yellow stamens didn’t show up well, though, which is too bad because they set of the petal color very nicely.

Peaches got her new shots today.  She’s learned to recognize the vet truck already, and went into reverse as soon as she saw it.  I sympathized — I hated shots when I was a kid — but hauled her down there anyway.  She’s been a little lethargic all day, though she managed to put away her dinner.  I’m keeping an eye on her.

Come to think of it, I still hate shots.
