A Little More Fire   Leave a comment

I left off yesterday just as fire engines were arriving down by the bridge.  Here they are . . . one in the riverbed, one on the bridge, and Billy supervising.

They couldn’t get to it, so they covered it up and let it smoulder. The trouble was that everyone who crossed the bridge reported it — again.  The firefighters were running in circles anyhow, with grass fires, structure fires, downed trees — all the problems that come with a major windstorm.

Not to mention the tumbleweeds.

We knew there were going to be problems this morning, when the wind caused hotspots everywhere to flare up.

One did start burning later in the afternoon, so a crew came in to work on that.

At least the horses weren’t much concerned — as long as there was food to be had.

I have my hoses and sprinklers back, and it looks like most of my plants made it through three days of high winds without water.

There are still people looking for their hoses and buckets.  Only a couple have arrived demanding to know who stole their hose/bucket/halter.  All of the “borrowed” items are around — somewhere.  And a couple of horses have shown up somewhere on Poso Creek, much to the dismay of the property owner, who has no idea where they came from.  It’s very possible they are a couple of our evacuees, who ended up in the wrong pasture.

This should be the last fire-related entry.  I really, really hope so, anyway.
