The Moods of the Kern River   Leave a comment

I’ve taken many pictures of the Lower Kern, and each one shows the river in a different mood; everything from dry sand to bank to bank full.  A lot depends on the time of year, of course; but even pictures taken on the same day from the same spot can be totally different.

For example, here’s a shot from this afternoon looking upriver.  The river’s in a grim gray mood . . .

But if I turn and look downriver, it’s bright and sparkling.

I wish I could show it moving; it was glittering like a billion stars.

This short walk was the only time I got outside today.  It is cold.  There were a few hardy riders out, but you had to be tough.  And tomorrow’s supposed to be colder yet. so there’ll be another round of freeze damage fixing.  It’s sure a lot colder than last year.

I guess we’re a lot of wusses around here!
