It’s Hard to Understand   Leave a comment

We’ve been watching the news today.  20 little children dead in a mass shooting.  I don’t want to imagine how their parents must feel.

It seems that there are more and more of these killings.  Most of them seem to be driven by a desire for notoriety; to make a mark on the world.  I wonder . . . if the press were to preface every mention of a shooter with the words “pathetic”, “loser”, “coward”, and the like, instead of “monster”, “killer”, “lone gunman”, and other ego-boosting adjectives . . . would that affect the guy who, even now, is listening to the coverage and thinking, “I could do better than that!” Give them no name, no books, no movies . . . only a spot on the trash-heap of history.

That’s not going to happen, is it?
