Another Try at a Hummer   Leave a comment

I keep on trying for that elusive hummingbird shot.  This time, I got some spangles!

But he didn’t have very much glitter.  I don’t know if he’s young or molting — or both — but he just wasn’t in full bloom.  It’s fall, after all.

It’s really feeling like fall, too.  I read an Internet article lately on why we have two words for the same season — fall and autumn.  It said that originally people only recognized two seasons; summer and winter.  Then someone discovered spring.  (Good for them.)  Fall was the last season to come along, and the name was because it was the opposite of spring.  I’ve forgotten how the word autumn was invented, but it was generally adopted in most of the English-speaking world.  In America, though, fall hung on.

And a good thing, too.  We’ve got fall all over the ground here.  And we don’t have to rake it up!
