Corn Moon   Leave a comment

The full moon last night was certainly spectacular.  The weather forecaster said it was called the “grain moon” or “corn moon” by the native Americans.

It was so bright Billy said he could have made his late rounds — around midnight — without turning on the headlights of his pickup.

The weatherman also said that there would be a second full moon on August 31, making it an official “blue moon”.  I’ll have to get out there for that one, too.

You can see in the second shot, especially, that the trees are continuing to die back in the dry riverbed.  When you add the heat wave to the drought, it looks like a lot of the vegetation that’s grown up over the last couple of years is not going to make it.  It’s too soon to tell what the long-term effects will be.  We’ve got our fingers crossed; no fires, please!
