Floral Friday   Leave a comment

The spring flush of bloom is over.  The glads are the exception.  This pink one — the “mystery flower” that showed up in a pot without explanation — is my favorite.

It’s a pretty spectacular flower, though small for a gladiolus.

The flowers know that the summer heat is upon us.  So do the customers.  We’re getting a lot of riders in the morning, almost no one through the day, and a lot more in the evening.  Those long mild evenings are one compensation for the Bakersfield summer heat.

Many of the morning riders are teachers, of whom we have quite a few.  Billy said a couple of weeks ago, right after school let out. that he could tell which boarders were teachers by the big grins on their faces.  As old retired educators, we know that feeling!
